My favorite quote this week is anonymous:

Everyone wants a strong woman

until she actually stands up, flexes her muscles,

projects her voice

Suddenly, she is too much.

She has forgotten her place.

You love those women

as ideas, as fantasies

Not as breathing, living humans

threatening to be even better

than you could ever be

Why I Chose It

Last weekend a monumental historic event unfolded. Women (and supports for Women’s Rights) marched all over the world, igniting a fire that lead to revolution. Yet, despite the efforts to stand up for equality there are still many who see the protest as “bitching” and “unnecessary.” Women who fight, who speak up, are treated as feminazis. It is disheartening. It is appalling to think that women who are privileged (those of us who live in the U.S. or in countries who do not oppress women) do not have any claim to feel repressed because of the so-called equality we have now.

I am tired. My fellow sisters are tired. It is ridiculous to lift women up as inspirational role models in media such as literature, t.v., movies, ect. but not treat real life warriors to that same extent. If the idea of a strong woman is desirable, is inspiring, then they should be seen as such in all areas of life.

What do you think of the recent events? Do you agree or disagree? I’d love to hear your thoughts down below.

Lastly, I apologize with the sudden political content on my blog. I’ve recently found beauty in rebellion, in voicing my concerns with the world.

My favorite quote this week is from L.H.Z.:

You love him despite the burden of Atlas resting on his shoulders, and he loves you despite the death still clinging to your lips, and the blood drying at it’s corners. What a pair you make.

Why I Chose It

I’ve been enjoying short, profound, Tumblr poetry. It’s modern and simple, yet, demonstrates the depth of human emotion. I think that when it comes to love we love the other person no matter their flaws, mistakes, and burdens. We accept the bad parts just as we do the good. L.H.Z. depicts this same concept with a little more angst, depth, and bleakness to an emotion that is often seen in light.

I hope everyone has a happy holiday! I’ll be stuffing my face and going into a food coma 😛

My favorite quote this week is from M.A.W:

we’re all killers.
we’ve all killed parts of ourselves
to survive.

we’ve all got blood on our hands.
something somewhere had to die
so we could stay alive.

Why I Chose It

I am in constant war with myself. I am my worse enemy. I’ve lost parts of myself in order to fit in, to make others happy, to simply survive in this world. This poem illustrates the harsh reality that I (and maybe you) have gone through, and even though it isn’t the most happiest thing in the world, it is still part of us. The beauty lies within survival and the strength I’ve had to keep on fighting.

This week, my favorite quote is a short poem by Topher Kearby:

i thought i saw stars in her eyes

glimmering

shimmering

shining in the night

but i was wrong.

it was fire

and those eyes –

they turned my soul to ash.

Why I Chose It

I am the girl who loves, well…love. But I also love heartbreak, and the inevitable strength that rises from the ashes. I love the use of alliteration that Kearby uses, emphasizing the greatness of this girl he’s come across. I think it’s so simply, yet, so beautiful, conveying nature as a force to be reckoned with.

My favorite quote this week is by Franklin D. Roosevelt:

Remember, remember always, that all of us, and you and I especially, are descended from immigrants and revolutionists.

Why I Chose It

At this present time, this is so so important to remember.

My favorite quote this week is by Oscar Wilde:

Yes: I am a dreamer. For a dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.

Why I Chose It:

I recently had to read The Critic As Artist in my British literature class, and I came across this quote. I found this profoundly beautiful with a bit of sadness sprinkled in for good measure. As an artist, Wilde saw the world for what it truly was and that is a punishment because 1) it is lonely and 2) it can be infuriating. It’s a paradox with no winner in the end.

At this point in time, it is okay to be different and to challenge the norm – to be a dreamer. Oftentimes, there are a handful of others who feel and think the same way. And even if there is not, do not let anyone extinguish the burning light inside of you.

My favorite quote this week is by Vaclav Havel:

Just as the constant increase of entropy is the basic law of the universe, so it is the basic law of life to struggle against entropy.

Why I Chose It

This quote was featured in an episode of Criminal Minds and it really hit a resonating cord. Entropy is chaos and randomness and these words are so true to the endless tangle of trials and tribulations. When we are met with a road bump, it is our duty to fight and push through. Havel reminds me of what it means to be human – that there are days where chaos is the epitome of life and that is okay.

My favorite quote this week is by Oscar Wilde from The Picture of Dorian Gray:

There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book. Books are well written, or badly written. That is all.

Why I Chose It

These are Oscar Wilde’s personal thoughts about literature. The quote is taken from The Preface. It is here that he discloses his inner most thoughts about life, books, art, ect. This particular quote deeply resonates with me because at the end of the day, everything that I read is either good or bad. It doesn’t matter what the book is about as long as the author’s writing appeals to the reader. To me, that is a magical gift – when the author is able to utterly captivate their audience simply with their craft.

My favorite quote this week is by John Keats:

Why I Chose It

I find beauty in art – in music, books, animals. I find beauty in people – in my family, my friends, my boyfriend. The people and things that I surround myself in bring me immense joy. It will forever be this way and I absolutely love how Keats simply captured it in his poetry. Joy does not need complexity. It’s simple. It. Just. Is.

My favorite post this week is from Pinterest:

20 Inspirational Love Quotes for Him:

Why I Chose It

Lately, the lovebird asked me why I loved him. It was a simple question that had a multitude of answers. I could have told him that I loved him for his kindness and good heart. I could have told him that I loved his smile and the way he made me laugh. I could have told him a lot of things, but I didn’t. Instead, I told him that I just do. It isn’t one single or specific aspect of him that I love, but all of him. The good, the bad. Everything.

When we meet people and fall in love we see them as flawlessly perfect. As the time goes by, their flaws begin to unravel and oftentimes, it isn’t a bad thing. Sometimes, the flaws are what we love even more than the perfection because that individual we love is one of a kind. And to me, that is the most beautiful thing in this world.
