WHEN I First Read

I must have been a junior or a senior in high school (it was nearly 4-5 years ago!) when I first read Dead Until Dark. I was in my vampire phase. I admit I was a Twi-hard before it became a world-wide phenomenon. After I read Twilight I wanted to get my hands on vampire books. I read Anne Rice, Richelle Mead, and Charlaine Harris.

WHAT I Remember

I remember it was about a girl name Sookie who had telepathic powers; she could read other people’s thoughts. Well, except Bill Compton – a vampire who was made into one of the dead in the 1800’s. The book is about her relationship with Bill and the things that happen in the little town of Bon Temps.

WHY I Wanted To Re-Read

I have most of the series sitting on my bookshelf and I never made it past the first book. So, I wanted to read it again to refresh my memory of events and go forth and read the rest of the series this year.

HOW I Felt After Re-Reading

All I could think was MEH and how similar (in a sense) it was compared to Twilight. Like how Sookie can read other people’s minds but cannot read Bill’s mind for some reason. It was a huge disappointment because I remember loving this book when I was a teen and now I’ve…grown up? I still enjoyed it, but not in the same way I did as I did in the past.

P.S. I do like Harris’ writing style. It’s very stream of consciousness, which is rare in fiction.

P.S.S. I remember blushing when I read the sexy scenes and though they are pretty hot, I do not blush anymore.

WOULD I Re-Read Again

I probably will not. I mean, it’s a good book and very different from the t.v. show (True Blood). I will go on and read the other books because I am curious to know what happens next! Plus, the books are short in length! I re-read this one in one sitting on a Friday.
